AMD Rumored To Launch Ryzen 9000G APUs In Q4 2025; Strix Point Coming To Desktop? 1

As per a rumor, the Zen 5-based Ryzen 9000G APU series might be released this year and, as per AMD's routine, it should be Strix Point.

AMD Strix Point "Ryzen 9000G" Rumoredly Coming to Desktop This Year, Featuring Zen 5 Cores and RDNA 3.5 iGPU

AMD hasn't announced the Zen 5-based APU lineup for the AM5 socket. It did release the Ryzen 8000G "Phoenix" APUs after releasing the Phoenix Point APUs for the mobile platform, but it has been quite a while since the launch of the Ryzen 9000 desktop CPUs as well as the Strix Point Zen 5 APUs.

It's usual for AMD to launch the APU family much later, but they eventually do make it to the desktop. Just like we had the Ryzen 2000G series, 3000G series, 5000G series, and 8000G series, AMD is rumored to launch the Ryzen 9000G series as well. The nomenclature isn't confirmed yet, but as per the prominent leaker @9550pro, AMD is set to launch a new APU series for the AM5 platform.

This series is reportedly coming in Q4 2025, but we have yet to hear from AMD. As far as the APU naming goes, previously AMD skipped the Ryzen 7000G naming convention and instead opted for the 8000G series, but this wasn't the case previously and likely not going to happen this time either.

AMD's Ryzen 9000G "Strix" APUs family is supposedly the Strix Point variant of the laptop series, which was launched in the second half of 2024. Going by the specs' comparison of the Ryzen 8000 Phoenix Point mobile APUs and the Ryzen 8000G series for desktops, it appears that AMD might release up to a 12-core Ryzen 9000G processor.

The highest we had on an APU is 8 cores and 16 threads, but since Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 features 12 cores and 24 threads, the supposed flagship Ryzen 9000G APU might feature the same core and thread count.

There will be a few changes in the specs as well, including the core clocks, which may be different on the desktop variants. Nonetheless, the iGPU will be the same and, based on the SKU, it could be either a Radeon 880M or Radeon 890M. The Radeon 890M is the fastest iGPU on the Strix Point, featuring 16 RDNA 3.5 cores and a clock of 2.9 GHz. The desktop variant can feature up to 3.0 GHz, but that's just our speculation.
