A device supposedly featuring a thin robotic arm is expected to launch in a couple of years from Apple’s side, and according to the latest report, it is intended to be used inside a person’s house as it will arrive with various functions designed to turn it into a ‘smart home command center.’ Additionally, the unnamed device can be placed on a table, and it will feature an iPad-like display to deliver a more interactive experience. However, interested customers will need to keep a ton of spare change during the time of purchase because the device is expected to cost $1,000.
Upcoming tabletop robotic device aiming a launch in 2026 or 2027, though Apple’s plans can change accordingly
The latest report from Bloomberg states that the contraption is allegedly codenamed J595, and it was approved for development by Apple’s management in 2022. However, the pace only picked up in the past few months, with new information claiming that there are several hundred people working on it. Initially, there were concerns from various Apple teams, believing that no customer would invest in a robotic device like this. Additionally, the resources required to develop the software necessary for its seamless functionality were scarce.
Thankfully, Apple CEO Tim Cook favored the idea, as did the company’s hardware engineering head, John Ternus. At the time of writing, the robotic tabletop project is spearheaded by Kevin Lynch, who was previously in charge of the now-canceled Apple Car venture. The Cupertino firm is reportedly eyeing a 2026 or 2027 release, but knowing Apple, there could be incoming delays. As for its functionality, the device would sport a large display that would be mounted on a movable robotic arm.
The arm would allow the display to tilt up and down while also rotating a complete 360 degrees. The screen part would allow for various functions, such as taking advantage of Apple Intelligence and using Siri. Additionally, there could be specialized voice commands for it, with the display also being able to orient itself in the user’s direction. Currently, there is no information on its technical specifications, but we are sure to learn about these details in the near future, so stay tuned.
