Asgard has announced its newest DDR5 memory, exceeding the speed limits of the existing high-speed DDR5 RAMs. The new RAM kit is the Thor DDR5 9600 MT/s, featuring CL44 timings and replacing its predecessor which could reach up to 9200 MT/s. The Thor DDR5-9600 MT/s CL44 is a CUDIMM memory, which improves signal integrity over regular DIMMs.
The CUDIMM memory stands for Clocked Unbuffered Dual In-Line Memory Module, which uses a CKD (Clock Driver) for regenerating the clock signal to improve stability and help the RAM modules reach higher frequencies. This is exactly what the Thor DDR5 9600 MT/s achieves, which makes it the fastest DDR5 RAM kit in terms of memory speed at the moment.
As per the company (via @9550pro), the CKD on Thor DDR5 RAM modules eliminates bottlenecks by improving the signal transmission between the CPU and the DRAM. Asgard Thor RAM kit can be seen running at 4800 MT/s, which translates to 9600 MT/s speed as Intel CPUs run RAM clock in 2:1 mode. The CPU-z window shows all the crucial information about the Asgard Thor memory such as its DRAM manufacturer, which is SK Hynix, and the CAS Latency.
The DDR5 9600 MT/s at CL 44 is roughly equivalent to a 6400 MT/s DDR5 memory running at CL 30, which is impressive as now users will also have a wider bandwidth. Asgard says that it launched a new memory kit for the latest AMD and Intel platforms, which can support much higher clocks than the predecessors. What's interesting is that the demonstration shows the memory kit running in Gear 2 mode but it is not mentioned which motherboard or CPU it was running with.
We saw recently how ASRock's Z890 Taichi can support up to 9200 MT/s of DDR5 RAM speed, which is roughly 2000 MT/s higher than the Z790 Taichi. The upcoming Intel platforms will support even higher RAM speeds & Asgard has announced that it has planned to launch a 10,000 MT/s memory shortly and is going to exceed this limit soon. Lexar also unveiled its next-gen CUDIMM design with up to 9600 MT/s speeds at Computex.
Aesthetically, the RAM modules will be available in two different colors: Polar Night Black and Lightning Silver. The heat spreaders on the modules won't be too tall as can be seen from the pics but should dissipate the heat quickly for better thermals. Via Intel XMP support, the Asgard Thor will be able to reach optimized settings and will work at just 1.5V.
Asgard adds that they are using third-generation JEDEC-compliant chips that will ensure better compatibility and reliability on the new platforms.
