ASUS ROG Crosshair X870E Extreme Takes Ryzen To The Extreme With Superb Motherboard Specs
ASUS was expected to introduce its flagship ROG Crosshair X870E Extreme motherboard at some point. The company already offers its X870E series in APEX and HERO series, but this time, we are getting the fastest of them all, the Extreme.
In terms of design, the ASUS ROG Crosshair X870E Extreme features an E-ATX design and has gone with an all-black color theme with a few silver accents. The motherboard features a high-end power delivery with several VRMs and is powered by dual 8-pin EPS connectors. The motherboard carries a total of four DDR5 DIMM slots with support for up to 256 GB capacities and some really fast clock speeds. A DIMM.2 slot can also be found next to the memory DIMMs which can support an AIC with dual M.2 slots.
Expansion slots on the motherboard include two PCIe 5.0 x16 and M.2 slots include at least 3–4 slots. The first slot features a massive heatsink with heat pipe solution and an EZ release design while the rest of the M.2 slots are located underneath a heatsink+coverplate that extends out to the PCH. The large ROG logo and Extreme label are mentioned.
Besides these, the VRMs are also covered by large heatsinks with heat pipe cooling solutions, and it looks like we may be looking at some active cooling solution underneath this. The IO cover comes with a fancy display which includes a large LCD and can be used for customization. The flip side has some overclocking and tuner-specific options with a DEBUG LED, FlexKey, Power On/Off button, and a range of right-angled connectors. Front panel USB options include 20G, 10G, and two 5G ports. You can also find various switches and buttons at the bottom of the motherboard.
The ASUS ROG Crosshair X870E Extreme comes with a large backplate, while rear-panel IO options include a 7.1 channel HD audio jack, WIFI7 port, a 10GbE and 5GbE LAN port, four USB Type-C ports including two 10G and two 40G, various USB Type-A ports, HDMI, BIOS and Clear CMOS buttons.
There's no word on the pricing yet, but given the pricing of existing X870E motherboards, we can expect the ROG X870E Crosshair Extreme to have a hefty price tag, well above the $1000 US mark.
