NVIDIA's board partners are officially charging significantly higher prices for both the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 graphics cards due to shortage.
ASUS and MSI are Now Selling the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 for up to 70% Higher Prices Than MSRP
The price hike curse is not sparing even AIBs. While it's understandable that selling GPUs at a significantly higher price is generally the modus operandi of scalpers, NVIDIA's board partners are adapting the same route, placing an even heavier burden on gamers' wallets.
Hardly a week has passed since we saw various retailers increasing GPU prices significantly, but we didn't expect AIBs such as ASUS and MSI would increase the prices officially to such an extent that it feels like being scammed. If you hover over ASUS's official website, you can find all the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 editions, some of them with their MSRPs listed. At the time of writing, only one GPU is being sold at the MSRP, which is the PRIME GeForce RTX 5080 at $999.
However, some of the RTX 5080 GPUs are now being sold at noticeably higher prices. As soon as you check out the prices of the ASUS RTX 5090 editions, you can see how bad the situation has become. While the most expensive ASUS RTX 5080 is the ROG Astral RTX 5080 OC edition, selling for $1,649, the same edition for RTX 5090 is selling for a whopping $3,079. Even at that price, the GPU isn't yet available for purchase.
The cheapest ASUS 5090 you can find is the TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 5090 OC edition, priced at $2,749.99. This is already a 37.5% price increase over the FE edition, followed by the ROG Astral RTX 5090 OC priced at 53% higher and the ROG Astral LC RTX 5090 at an insane 70% higher price at $3,409.
MSI does look a bit generous with its RTX 5080 and RTX 5090 editions, but the prices are still not justifiable. The cheapest MSI RTX 5080 is the Ventus 3X at $1,139 and the most expensive one currently is RTX 5080 16G Suprim Liquid SOC at $1,499. Thankfully, not as insane as some of the RTX 5090 editions, starting at $2,379 for the Ventus 3X, all the way up to $2,789 for the RTX 5090 Suprim Liquid SOC. This marks up to a whopping 50% price increase for the RTX 5080 and up to 39.5% for the RTX 5090.
We don't encourage spending even $100 higher on these editions as the value isn't there. It's best to wait for a few weeks till the prices go back to normal, or you may wait for the RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5070 if you aren't in the race to purchase the best gaming graphics card.
