Black Friday is here, and surprisingly, the recently-released Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III is already on sale via a number of platforms and retailers. This usually doesn’t happen – I’ve been writing up Black Friday deals posts for years, and you almost never see discounts for that year’s Call of Duty.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III is currently 15 percent off on both the PlayStation Store and the Xbox Store. This deal also extends to other retailers, including Amazon.
Of course, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III going on sale so quickly will likely generate some chatter about how well this year’s game is doing. CoD: MWIII has been lambasted by professional critics and fans alike, becoming the worst-reviewed game in the franchise. Activision has boasted about “record engagement,” claiming those who have bought CoD: MWIII have initially played more hours than those who bought MW 2019 or MWII. What Activision isn’t boasting about is actual sales or revenue numbers. If only the core CoD faithful are buying this year’s entry, that may also explain the high engagement numbers.
But perhaps you’re still on the fence and tempted by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III given the Black Friday discounts? Wccftech’s Kai Tatsumoto found MWIII’s gameplay to be solid, but its content to be lacking, in his full review…
“Call of Duty Modern Warfare III builds off of last year’s strengths and weaknesses without having enough identity to stand up on its own. So much of this year’s content is recycled in ways the series hadn’t seen before. If you skipped Modern Warfare II and care not for the campaign, the breadth of multiplayer modes can keep players engaged for the next twelve months. It’s tough for Infinity Ward to shake off the comments that this year’s Call of Duty is merely a $60 expansion pack. Even for a fan of the series that has hit prestige year after year, the content this time around is a tough sell.”
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III can be played on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, and PS5. Most of the deals are only available until tomorrow, so grab ‘em while you can.
