Chinese SSD manufacturer UNIS Flash Memory has unveiled one of the world's fastest storage drives, offering speeds of up to a whopping 14,900 MB/s.

UNIS's Latest S5 & S5 Ultra SSDs Manage To Position Themselves As The Fastest Gen5 Drives In The Market

Well, it seems like China isn't stepping down soon when it comes to technological innovations, and now, a domestic company has unveiled what seems like the fastest SSD drive available in the market. Unis Flash Memory, which is said to be a subsidiary of UNISplendour Corporation Limited (Unis), has unveiled two new storage drives, the S5, and the S5 Ultra (via MyDrivers), with both of them targeting high-end performance, durability, and speeds that we have never seen before.

The S5 series generally features the M.2 2280 form factor, featuring 3D TLC NAND flash memory. Given these drives' blazing-fast performance, they are equipped with a 1mm graphene heat sink, although a dedicated heatsink would be a must if you are looking to capitalize on the maximum performance. They feature a PCIe 5.0 x 4 interface, which is why the read/write speeds are on par with some of the fastest SSD options, like the Crucial T705. Despite being a Chinese manufacturer, UNIS Flash Memory has undoubtedly managed to dominate the performance segment with its S5 lineup.

Diving into the specifics, well, the S5 is a DRAM-less solution, but with the combination of HMB and SLC cache, the drive manages to clock in a read speed of up to 14,900 MB/s and a write speed of up to 12,900 MB/s. These figures are some of the fastest we have seen, given that the leading option right now, the Crucial T705, is rated at 14,500/12,700, which means that the S5 outperforms it. We could categorize the drive as the fastest one out there, but not before testing it out.

The S5 Ultra counterpart is said to feature read/write speeds of up to 14,200 MB/s and 13,400 MB/s, respectively, but the key difference here is that this drive is equipped with a more advanced 6nm main control chip. Given its durability rating of 1200TBW/2400TBW, the S5 Ultra is best suited for intensive workloads such as productivity scenarios. These are indeed the top-tier options from UNIS, and we cannot wait to see what they bring to the markets.

In terms of capacities, the S5 is said to be available in a 1TB/2TB configuration, while the Ultra counterpart will feature 2TB/4TB capacities. For now, details around pricing and regional availability remain confined, but we can only hope that the manufacturer launches these drives globally so that we can test out the read/write speed claims.
