Six years ago, Apple TV+ made its official debut, bringing in a series of exclusive content that viewers could enjoy on their iPhones, iPads, Macs, and various Apple TV models. However, it never occurred to the company to branch out the same treatment to Android users until today. According to the latest report, a dedicated Apple TV+ app could be made available for Google’s mobile platform as early as today, giving access to a plethora of content for potentially millions of viewers to enjoy while also increasing the Cupertino firm’s subscriber count and boosting its Services’ sector.
The latest move to bring Apple TV+ to Android could offset the company’s massive budget being injected to make expensive movies and TV series
Instead of relying on a web browser to view Apple TV+ content, which may not offer the same experience as a dedicated app, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman states that both Android smartphone and tablet owners will be able to take advantage of the service soon. It is unclear why Apple took its sweet time to bring an app to its rival platform, but the company missed out on a major market these last few years. It is also worth mentioning that the technology giant was previously reported to be bleeding excessive cash due to its ambitious strides in delivering original content to viewers.
A previous estimate stated that Apple’s expenditure had crossed $20 billion, and certain measures were being taken to put the brakes on this spending spree. TV shows like Severance, which has skyrocketed in popularity, might have contributed to the increased subscriber count for Apple TV+, but with an estimated cost of $20 million per episode, the effort made was undoubtedly costly. The report does not specify if Android users will be offered some kind of promotion for subscribing to the service, but the current pricing of Apple TV+ stands at $9.99. A free trial may be provided, but nothing is confirmed.
During its Q1 2025 earnings call, Apple stated that out of the $124.3 billion generated from the quarter, Services made up $26.34 billion of the total, up from $23.12 billion recorded from the same quarter a year ago. By adding potentially millions of Android users to the tally, Apple TV+ is expected to receive a massive bump in subscriber numbers.
