Galaxy S25 Edge slim phone with durability as a priority

Companies are increasingly working on improving their smartphone form factor and bringing in novelty. With the competition intensifying, each is trying to make its mark, and now the trend seems to be slim devices. Apple has a slimmer iPhone coming out in 2025, and Samsung is also working on an ultra-thin phone, the Galaxy S25 Edge. While the South Korean showcased the slim phone at the Galaxy Unpacked event in January, the company has reserved the device's specifications to maintain the mystery.

The tech community is looking forward to the S25 Edge, but there have also been some durability concerns. A leak now suggests that the company will ensure durability remains intact despite the thinness.

Galaxy S25 Edge is not only going to sport an ultra-thin form factor but will have durability as a priority

While teasers gave us a brief look at the Galaxy S25 Edge since hands-on interactions were not allowed, not many details about the device could be confirmed. Samsung has been able to keep the specifications of the device a mystery. The S25 Edge is expected to be unveiled on April 16, 2025, through an online event and officially become available in May, but leaks have given us a sneak peek at what to expect from the model.

One of the major concerns when opting for a sleek design is compromising on durability. However, the company seems to have taken notice and ensured users do not have to choose between outlook and resilience. In an interview with Tech Radar, Samsung UK's Marketing Director Annika Bizon stated that durability was a priority. While explaining the focus points of the device, Bizon stated:

One is that it’s absolutely stunning. And if you think about the technology that’s going into that size of space, it’s pretty impressive. The second thing I’ll say concerns durability. Those are the two features that are exciting. Well, I know durability isn't exciting – but it’s really important.

When designing an ultra-thin model, the longevity of the device is often put into question. If we recall, the iPhone 6 Plus's slim design came at the cost of structural integrity, and many users came forward with complaints about the phone being more prone to bending, especially when placed in pockets. Samsung is taking a proactive approach to address this concern by reassuring customers about the Galaxy S25 Edge's resilience before its release.

Earlier speculation also revealed that the Galaxy S25 Edge might feature a ceramic back instead of the traditional glass, which could help against scratches and shatter resistance. The Galaxy S25 Edge's ceramic back will make it incredibly durable, but how the density would be managed is yet to be seen. Nonetheless, a slimmer form factor that does not compromise on robustness does seem promising, and we will get more details on the device when it comes out.
