The tons of rumors about Samsung's upcoming flagship Galaxy S5 shipping with a fingerprint sensor weren't off the mark, anyway. As shared with you a few times, many analysts had speculated that Samsung will follow Apple by introducing Galaxy S5 fingerprint sensor. However, from the recent news it seems like the Galaxy S5 fingerprint sensor won't be embedded in the entire display screen, as was previously speculated.

Reported by SamMobile, Samsung's fingerprint technology is now "confirmed". The site mentions "our insiders" for informing and confirming Samsung Galaxy S5 fingerprint sensor and also that how exactly will it work!

How will Galaxy S5 fingerprint sensor work?

According to the report, Samsung Galaxy S5 fingerprint sensor will be activated using a swipe motion that will scan the fingerprint from the base to tip. This is different than iPhone 5s's fingerprint Touch ID which performs a motionless scan.

The sensor itself works in a swipe manner, which means that you would need to swipe the entire pad of your finger, from base to tip, across the home key to register your fingerprint properly. Also, you would need to keep your finger flat against the home key and swipe at a moderate speed or else it won’t recognise your fingerprint. The fingerprint sensor is sensitive to moisture, as well.

Samsung has implemented the fingerprint scanning through the entire operating system letting a user register a total of 8 fingerprint and also assign to various different tasks. While one print is supposed to be used to unlock the device, others can be used for tasks such as an app shortcut.

Samsung has also developed Personal Folder and Private Mode to help users hide personal apps, widgets, and other content. The coolest thing though is that Samsung Galaxy S5 will show you real-time imagery of your fingerprint on the display screen as you swipe it over the sensor!
