The latest NVIDIA GPU drivers are reportedly causing too many issues with the older RTX 40 and RTX 30 series, forcing game developers to recommend older drivers.
InZoi and The First Berserk: Khazan Developers Recommend NVIDIA GPU Driver 566.36 for RTX 40 Series and 572.83 for RTX 50 GPUs
We have previously reported a couple of times how the latest NVIDIA GPU drivers 572.XX have been causing problems for RTX 40 GPU owners. The newer drivers can cause instability, resulting in sudden crashes, freezes, and even performance issues. The issues are now widespread, to the point where some game developers no longer recommend installing them at all.
Games like inZoi and The First Berserker: Khazan, the games which were launched just 2–3 days ago, are causing instability issues on RTX 40 GPUs and gamers are reportedly seeing stuttering or frame drops. Unfortunately, the RTX 40 series isn't the only NVIDIA series affected, but the RTX 30 series GPUs are also breaking down with the latest NVIDIA 572.XX drivers.
Developers of both games have issued their latest notices, asking users to go with the NVIDIA GPU Driver 572.XX (572.83 being the latest) only if they own an RTX 50 series GPU. RTX 40 series owners are being recommended 566.36, which came in December 2024 before the RTX 50 series was launched. In previous reports, we saw many users detailing similar stories, claiming that the 566.XX drivers apparently fixed the instability.
While these issues don't usually occur on RTX 50 series GPUs with 572.XX drivers, there are still plenty of specific bugs that the 572.XX drivers are infected with. Remember that the 572.XX drivers didn't do well when they came out as RTX 50 series GPUs were facing black screen issues, only to get fixed with the recent updates.
On the other hand, the new drivers brought complicated issues for the RTX 40 series GPUs, which NVIDIA hasn't even acknowledged till now. This is why game developers had no choice other than to recommend previous drivers as the complaints about performance are piling up.
As for the RTX 30 GPUs, even though the instability isn't very common, game developers recommend rolling back to 566.36 if users see such cases. Unfortunately, if you own an RTX 50 GPU and are suffering from such an issue, you can't even install a 566.XX driver as pre-572.XX drivers don't even support them. It appears as if NVIDIA doesn't really care much about its gaming segment anymore, since it only makes up a small percentage of its total revenue.
