ZOTAC RTX 5090 GPUs Have Missing ROPs Resulting In Performance Degradation, Slower Than Founders Edition1

The missing ROP RTX 5090 GPUs are still selling on the market, but this time you can see the ROP count.

Since NVIDIA has already produced many 'nerfed' RTX 50 series GPUs, featuring lower ROPs than usual, it's understandable that vendors and retailers will try to get rid of those. Even though NVIDIA claims less than a percent of such produced cards, there might be hundreds or thousands of such cards in the market.

However, it's difficult to know which one has fewer ROPs than usual. It has been over a month since we first heard of such a card, namely the ZOTAC RTX 5090, which had 168 ROPs instead of 176. More such reports emerged later, revealing that the RTX 5080 and RTX 5070 Ti are also affected by such issues. Not surprisingly, one such GPU was seen at a German retailer, but surprisingly, it was the ZOTAC GeForce RTX 5090 SOLID card (the OC one), which was seen in the first case.

The retailer "Alternate" listed the ZOTAC GeForce RTX 5090 SOLID OC briefly, but the page was taken down soon. Videocardz took a screenshot of the page before it was pulled back, and we can see that the GPU description mentions the lower ROP count of the GPU. Under the Note B-Stock, it was stated that this particular edition will feature only 168 ROPs.

The GPU was listed at €2,899, which roughly translates to US$3136 with VAT included. Without VAT, it comes down to US$2,613, which is still a whopping $600 higher than the base MSRP of the card. The RTX 5090 with the full 176 ROPs at $2600+ is already expensive and considering the missing ROP RTX 5090 is slower in performance, this price tag looks pretty bad.

As we can see now, there is a new GPU product page with a new URL for the same edition right now but misses the ROP information, and it's possible that the 168 ROP edition is already sold or the retailer might have decided to take it down for unknown reasons. However, it's surprising to see the standard 176 ROP card being listed at the same price.

It should be kept in mind that the missing ROP is a serious issue, and we have previously seen such GPUs underperforming compared to the standard cards. In some games, the performance difference was 4-5% but in some, it was up to 11%.
