Today, Google has announced its latest Pixel Fold smartphone that comes with a boatload of features. The device will directly compete against the Galaxy Z Fold 4. While there are some similarities in terms of design, the company made sure that users got a brand-new experience when the foldable flagship was officially announced a few days ago.
In terms of design, the Google Pixel Fold sports a book-style design, which is comparatively shorter but wider than the Galaxy Z Fold lineup. The device features the same shiny bar-shaped camera plateau on the back as the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. The rear of the Pixel Fold is protected by a glass panel that would allow for wireless charging capabilities. Overall, the device features a pretty neat exterior. At the front, you get a smaller 5.8-inch cover display, and when the device is unfolded, the inner display stretches to 7.69 inches diagonally. Both panels support the 120Hz refresh rate panel, meaning content and UI elements will be fluid.
As for internals, the Google Pixel Fold is powered by the company’s in-house Tensor G2 chip. It was previously reported that the device would come with a Tensor G3, but the company decided to stick to the G2, meaning that this device is certainly not beating the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 5, which will likely be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. The device will come in two storage variants, 256GB and 512GB, conjoined with 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM. The Tensor G2 chip is also paired with the company’s Titan M2 chip for enhanced security.

In the camera department, the Pixel Fold touts a triple rear camera setup with the main camera at 48MP. Furthermore, the device houses a 10.8MP telephoto sensor which is capable of 5x optical zoom and 20x digital zoom. Lastly, the device also comes with an ultrawide angle lens that can shoot photos at a maximum resolution of 10.8MP. Pixel phones feature one of the best cameras on a smartphone, and this one would potentially live up to the hype.

Nonetheless, it is too early to draw conclusions, and we will wait for the tests to give the final verdict. On the front, the device comes with a 9.5MP camera for selfies, while the inner camera is an 8MP lens. As for pricing and availability, the Pixel Fold features a hefty price tag of $1,799 for the base model. For those interested in picking up this model, keep in mind that it will be limited to a few markets, including the U.S. Other than that, you will only find it in regions such as the U.K., Japan, and Germany.
Pre-orders start today at the Google Store, with the available finishes being Obsidian and Porcelain. The price of the 512GB version is $1,919. Customers who pre-order the Pixel Fold will receive a free Pixel Watch worth $349, with orders arriving to people from June 27.
