Now that Android 15 Beta 1 is out, I can imagine the joy on the faces of Pixel users who are running to install the update. The good news is that if you are already enrolled in the beta program, then you should receive the update at any time. The same goes for the Android 15 Developer Preview users. However, if neither of the cases applies to you, then you can just follow this guide and get started.
Easily install Android 15 on your Pixel device and get the taste of the latest Google OS
Now, it is worth noting that although the Android 15 Beta 1 is likely to be a lot more stable than the Developer Previews that were released in the past, there still can be some issues that can hinder the experience. So, if you are looking for the smoothest possible experience, we would advise that you stick to the OS version you are running right now instead of updating.
The Android 15 Beta 1 is available for all supported Pixel devices, starting from the Pixel 6 series and all the way up to the Pixel 8 series. The beta is also available for Pixel Fold and Pixel Tablet. With that said, let's get started on how you can install Android 15 beta.
Before you install the update, Google has mentioned that you must be currently running Android 15 Developer Preview 2 or Android 14 QPR3 Beta 2. Only then will you be able to install Android 15 Beta 1.
Step 1: Start by turning on Developer options and turning on OEM unlocking.
Step 2: Head over here and download the correct file for your Pixel device. Remember, using a factory image will wipe your data; meanwhile, the OTA package won't. Still, it is safe to just back up your data before proceeding. To make matters easy, we are only going to be using the guide for OTA files and not factory images.
Step 3: Turn off your Pixel device, press and hold the Power button and Volume down button together until you are at the Bootloader page. If you see an Android lying down, press the Power button and Volume up button for about a second to fully enter the Recovery mode. Release the Volume button, and you will enter Recovery mode.
Step 4: Using the volume buttons, navigate to Recovery mode and select it using the Power button.
Step 5: Now that you are in Recovery mode, scroll down using the volume buttons, select Apply update from ADB, and select that by using the Power button.
Step 6: The next step is to install ADB drivers. The simplest way is to use a system-wide ADB installer, as it makes everything super easy. You can check it out here.
Step 7: Connect your Pixel device to your computer, and be sure that you grant permission in case you are asked. Stary by entering the command adb sideload and pressing enter. Be sure that you are opening the command prompt in the same folder where the downloaded file is stored, or else it won't work. The next step is to enter the name of the .zip file you downloaded earlier in the process and then hit enter once again to start the process. If done correctly, the command prompt window should show you some progress, and the same is the case with the phone's screen.
Once the OTA package is installed, you will be taken back to Recovery mode. Just reboot your device, and you will be good to go. Considering that you have just installed a new update, it could take some time before the device boots, so don't worry if there are delays.
There you have it, folks! You have successfully installed Android 15 on your Pixel device. You can start using the beta without any issues. Additionally, you do not have to worry about going through the process again, as your phone will update to the next version over the air once it is available to all users.
