AMD Ryzen AI Max 300-based HP laptops are available in multiple configurations, but the price starts at $4000+.

ZBook Ultra 14, Featuring Ryzen AI Max 385 With 32 GB RAM and 512 GB SSD Costs a Whopping $4296; Flagship Model Lists for $8250

AMD's Strix Halo laptops have started to appear, and they seem to be very expensive. Unlike gaming laptops, which ship with dedicated GPUs, the latest releases by HP don't come with RTX 50 series GPUs but run on the iGPU. Even though the iGPUs on Strix Halo are quite fast, the prices of these models are even higher than the RTX 50 series high-end gaming laptops.

As can be seen from the official website of HP, the base model of the ZBook Ultra 14 G1a Mobile Workstation PC Wolf Pro Security Edition starts at $4296. This model features the Ryzen AI Max Pro 385 processor, Radeon 8050S iGPU, 32 GB LPDDR5X memory, and 512 GB SSD storage. It's usual to see professional laptops go for a higher price than their regular counterparts, but here, the price of the flagship model with Ryzen AI Max Pro 395 exceeds $8000.

The prices of these models mostly vary based on the memory and storage configuration. For instance, the one with an AMD Ryzen AI Max Pro 395, 64 GB RAM, and 1 TB SSD costs $5660 but the same model with 128 GB RAM and 4 TB SSD costs $8250. That's a whopping $2590 price difference for an additional 64 GB RAM and 3 TB SSD, and one can easily buy a powerful gaming laptop for this price tag.

As far as other things go, the battery life is identical on every model, featuring a 74.5 Wh polymer battery. The displays vary from model to model, starting with a simple WUXGA (1920x1200p) display up to a 2.8K (2880x1800p) OLED touch display on higher-end models.

The detailed specifications are available on the product pages of the HP store, but there isn't a huge difference in connectivity, camera, and other features. The core configuration makes the most difference and the HP ZBook Ultra 14 starts with an 8-core/16-thread Ryzen AI Max Pro 385 all the way up to a 16-core/32-thread Ryzen AI Max Pro 395 processor. With double the cores and threads, the higher-end models will be extremely fast at crunching big numbers and will also be better at graphical workloads due to faster Radeon 8060S integrated graphics.
