Apple is constantly working to secure a top spot in China's premium handset market by offering hefty discounts on various iPhone models. The company is still offering discounts on several products for its New Year sale. To counter its arch-rival in the region, Huawei is also making its premium devices available with a massive price cut, including the Pura 70 Ultra.
Huawei is offering hefty discounts in China to take on Apple's top spot in the premium handset market
Huawei and Apple are top-performing contenders in China, with a 52 percent and 33 percent share of the premium handset market, respectively. Premium phones are classified as devices that cost above the $600 mark, and Huawei has been struggling with its Mate 70 lineup compared to Apple. Regardless, the manufacturer managed to secure a second spot in the region. You can check out the discounts below for more details.
The Huawei Pura 70 Ultra with 1TB of storage capacity is available at a hefty 18 percent off, which brings the price down from 10,999 yuan to 8,999 yuan or from $1,494 to $1,233. The 512GB variant of the device is also available at 20 percent off, even though the lineup received a 1,000 yuan or $137 price cut last summer.
Huawei's foldable Mate X5 can be purchased at 19 percent off, bringing the price down to 10,499 yuan, which translates to $343. However, note that the device launched in September 2023, which makes it quite dated compared to the latest. Despite its age, the Mate X5 was reported to be the most popular foldable in the region last year.
The company's latest Mate 70 series has not been at its best in terms of sales, and it could be due to the Kirin 9020 processor powering the handset. Compared to the iPhone 16 lineup's 3nm chips, the Kirin 9020 is based on a 7nm node, which draws more power, and the performance is nowhere near the level of Apple's A18 and A18 Pro chips. Counterpoint research claims that Huawei will sell at least 10 million units of its flagship Mate 70 lineup.
Huawei has many competitors in China, including Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo, and others, which could potentially give it a hard time. The company recently introduced its HarmonyOS operating system, which will rival the likes of Android in the region, and it already has thousands of apps on the platform. On the flip side, Apple is still strong in the region, and its consistent promotions are making it stand out from the crowd, as it is the only non-Android option available to users other than Huawei's HarmonyOS. We will keep you posted with more details, so do stick around.
