Humane continues to run into trouble with its first and only product, the Ai Pin. After receiving a bombardment of negative reviews from online media publications and YouTubers, the device’s Charge Case accessory could be a potential danger to customers. The company has now asked customers to stop using the add-on as it could pose a ‘fire safety risk’ to them.
The supplier who provided the Charge Case accessory has been ‘disqualified’ as Humane looks for another manufacturer to provide the Ai Pin accessory
In an email that was sent to customers and spotted by The Verge, Humane says that the Ai Pin Charge Case was a third-party accessory that ‘may pose a fire safety risk’ and should not be used with the AI gadget at any cost. Additionally, the company states that it has ‘disqualified’ the vendor that supplied it with the Charge Case and is actively looking for a replacement. Fortunately, the fire risk will not affect the Ai Pin or the magnetic Battery Boost. However, the customers will be affected, but Humane believes that some compensation is in order.
The company is offering two free months of its subscription service, which is somewhat mandatory to unlock the device’s complete functionality. Humane has not clarified if it will offer customers a replacement charging case but says that it ‘will share additional information’ after investigating the issue. Humane’s founders were recently exploring an acquisition offer, valuing the company between $750 million and $1 billion. Sadly, after the latest incident with the Charge Case, it is likely that the offer will go down drastically.
The Ai Pin launched for $699, which is $100 less than the price of a base iPhone 15 model with 128GB of internal storage. However, customers were also required to pay a monthly $24 subscription to unlock its full capability, which would equate to $288 annually. Overall, it would have been a pricey purchase for any consumer, especially considering that any smartphone is significantly more capable than it.
