Apple recently announced its WWDC 2025 event dates, during which it will unveil iOS 19 and a handful of other updates. We have previously heard from Mark Gurman that iOS 19 will be a bigger update than we originally anticipated, featuring a visual overhaul of the interface similar to visionOS. Jon Prosser has now reportedly leaked various aspects of iOS 19 and how it will look compared to the current iOS 18 version.
iOS 19 will feature the same app icons as iOS 18, as leaker puts an end to the circular layout
Apple is lagging behind in rolling out Apple Intelligence upgrades, and while the trend is expected to continue until next year, users should be looking forward to various changes in iOS 19. It was previously rumored that Apple would finally allow users to change the shape of the app icons, which are currently squared off with rounded edges. The next iteration of the app icons could be more circular, similar to the Pixel series.
In his latest YouTube video, Jon Prosser from Front Page Tech claims that iOS 19 will not include circular app icons. This could be the biggest change coming to the iPhone this year, but we must take the news with a pinch of salt, as it is too early to draw final conclusions. In addition, Prosser showcased various aspects of iOS 19 and how it will be different from the current version.
The leaker explains that various interface elements will be translucent, which will bleed hazy background colors onto the popups and other aspects. Prosser also states that the company will be making various changes to its stock keyboard, which will be translucent as well, with some key differences compared to the current version of iOS 18.
Jon Prosser also showcased the Messages app recently, which featured the same translucent effects on the interface, but Mark Gurman claims that the changes expected are nothing compared to what Apple will showcase at its WWDC event on June 9. Even though Gurman believes that iOS 19 will be a major upgrade over the current version, there will still be some key similarities with the current version. Moreover, Prosser claims that circular icons will not be part of Apple's iOS 19, which means that the general look of the Home Screen will be the same as the current version.
All in all, it is believed that iOS 19 will be a bigger update than we originally speculated, but could Apple be compensating users for its lack of Apple Intelligence features? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
