Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max feature IP68 dust and water resistance, meaning that both flagships can survive underwater for up to a depth of 6 meters for 30 minutes. Beyond those limits, one can say that divine intervention might play a pivotal role in ensuring that one of these handsets survives because still working while being submerged for 22 hours probably means that there are other powers at play. Regardless, one owner recalls how he recovered his iPhone 15 Pro, and even though the speakers were not working correctly at first, a little drying did the trick.
Battery of the iPhone 15 Pro was completely discharged when located, but the device worked immediately after it dried
A Redditor sporting the username Gerodot01 recounts how he located his iPhone 15 Pro, which lay at a depth of 2.5 meters for 22 hours in the freshwater of a river. Naturally, any smartphone with a regular-sized battery cannot stay powered on for this long, so it was bound to turn off, which was its state when it was found. The flagship’s speakers did not work initially, which is not unusual.
“The phone lay at a depth of 2.5 meters for 22 hours in fresh water in the river. After that I took it out, it was discharged, but after drying it turned on. The speakers did not work well at first, then they dried out and the phone returned to the state it was in before being submerged in water. Has anyone had similar cases?”
Fortunately, after completely drying the unit, the iPhone 15 Pro powered on successfully, with the speakers working immaculately shortly after. Gerodot01 has also shared an image of the device above, revealing its innards, likely in an attempt to spot which part might have received water damage. From its appearance, the iPhone 15 Pro made it out unscathed, but by opening the display assembly, the adhesives that grant the smartphone its water resistance have been removed.
In this scenario, those adhesives need to be reapplied by a third-party solution, or else this iPhone 15 Pro might not survive another dunk in the water. Still, it is a miraculous story because there are not many instances when an electronic device makes it out alive after remaining submerged for nearly an entire day.
