A YouTuber was thoroughly impressed with the iPhone 17 Air's dummy units, stating that it feels so "futuristic" with its 5.5mm thickness. We now have additional images of the dummy models of the iPhone 17 Air, which aim to portray the thinness. The images show that the iPhone 17 Air is almost as thin as the buttons and the USB-C port itself, marking a solid achievement for Apple.
iPhone 17 Air dummy models can be as thin as the buttons on the side
The images were shared by Sonny Dickson on X, showcasing the designs and dimensions of the entire iPhone 17 lineup, including the ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air. It was previously reported that the Air model will be 5.5mm thin at its thinnest point, which excludes the camera bar at the top. The iPhone 17 Pro models, on the flip side, are reported to be 8.725mm thick and, as you can see in the images, the difference is dramatic and quite noticeable.

If you closely inspect the iPhone 17 Air, you will observe that the device is almost as thin as the buttons. Moreover, if you look at the bottom of the device, the Air's thickness will be barely bigger than the charging port. However, Apple should be wary of the durability concerns that might arise from a thinner chassis. It was previously rumored that the iPhone 17 Air would use an aluminum and titanium chassis, potentially making it strong enough not to bend.

Apple does not want to invite another bendgate fiasco upon itself, which means that it will take numerous measures to retain the device's durability. Apple faced a bendgate scenario with the iPhone 6 Plus, which used slightly softer aluminum, compared to the one Apple appointed for the iPhone 6S Plus. The company was also previously aiming to make the iPhone 17 Air 6.9 inches, but due to these durability concerns, the company possibly restricted itself to 6.6 inches.

To retain the thinness of the device, Apple will use a single-lens camera at the back, and based on what the reports and rumors suggest so far, the main selling point of the device will be its design. However, the thinness of the iPhone 17 Air also raises battery life concerns, and even though the company is aiming to use silicon-carbon batteries, the overall battery life remains to be judged. We will share more details on the design of the device as soon as further information is available. Do you think the iPhone 17 Air will be cheaper than the iPhone 17 Pro?
