MSI is launching a new line of PSUs with top-notch specs geared toward high-performance PCs under the MEG GS lineup.

MSI Brings ATX 3.1 & PCIe 5.1 Compliance Down To The MPG PSUs Series With New GS Lineup

Just yesterday, we gave our first impressions on the top of the line MEG Ai1600T, which is aimed at the premium segment. That PSU has it all and offers up to 1600 Watts of power. But, it also comes with a high price tag of $699 US. So MSI is shifting gears and is now planning to offer cost-effective solutions within its MPG series.

The new lineup, the MSI MPG GS series, will include three models: the A1250GS, A1000GS and the A850GS. As you can tell by the name, the PSUs are rated at 1250W, 1000W and 850W. These should be enough to power the majority of high-end PCs that are being built today using the latest GPUs & CPUs.

What's more important is that all three PSUs are compliant with the latest PCI-SEG specifications, such as ATX 3.1 and PCIe 5.1. This means you will have the best safety and compatibility features inside your PC when running these PSUs. These are also Cybenetics ATX 3.1 and PPLP.INFO ATX 3 certified. With these new specs, the MSI MPG GS series can sustain up to 235% power excursions. These are:

  • 1250W * 2.35 = 2937.5W
  • 1000W * 2.35 = 2350.0W
  • 850W * 2.35 = 1997.5W

As we have seen with RTX 40 and RTX 50 GPUs, these graphics cards can sometimes create spikes that are beyond their power rating and certain PSUs that aren't designed to sustain such spikes can lead to unwanted results such as the PSU turning off or system reboots. MSI ensures that isn't the case with its PSU lineup.

Other than that, the MSI MPG GS series is also PCIe 5.1 ready, featuring the latest 12V-2x6 power connectors, which eliminate some of the major issues with the first-gen 12VHPWR cables. These PSUs will be rated at 80 PLUS GOLD and will be equipped with a Semi-Digital (PFC+LLC) design with 100% server-grade capacitors that are rated for up to 105C operation. There is no information on pricing or availability yet but expect these PSUs to roll out in the market soon!
