Apple always made its ProMotion technology exclusive to the ‘Pro’ versions of the iPhone, but this year could be the first time that the company might make a drastic shift in its business practices. There have been a ton of reports stating that LTPO panels will arrive for the entire iPhone 17 lineup later this year, including the base model. However, those reports did not take into account that an iPhone 17 Air will also be a part of the family, and given that it is not the most premium offering from Apple’s upcoming models, there is no confirmation if ProMotion will be a part of the ultra-thin flagship.

To experience that buttery-smooth scrolling and navigation on an iPhone, customers would have to spend more money, but later this year, they have the opportunity to avail more savings because ProMotion technology is said to debut for the base iPhone 17. According to Bloomberg, with details spotted by AppleInsider, the existence of ProMotion on an iPhone 17 will happen thanks to the company transitioning from LTPS panels to LTPO ones.
In addition to offering a higher refresh rate display on the more affordable iPhone, these displays will be extremely power efficient as a result of using LTPO technology. This is because the hardware can dynamically switch between 10Hz to 120Hz depending on what kind of content is being displayed to conserve battery life. Now that we have reported on the upgrade arriving to the base iPhone 17, what about the sleeker iPhone 17 Air? There is no confirmation of this upgrade for the time being.
However, we can understand that Apple’s targeted audience, who want to make the iPhone 17 Air their daily driver, will be highly livid if the company cuts corners and resorts to shipping the flagship with no ProMotion support.
