While the Galaxy Z Fold and Flip 6 are getting quite the attention with the Galaxy Unpacked 2024 right around the corner, the rumors about the Galaxy S series also seem to be picking up even though there is still time for its launch. A while back, a tipster gave away hints regarding the ultrawide and zoom camera possibly seeing an upgrade with the Galaxy S25 Ultra. Now, another significant leak gives away some key information regarding the updates coming to the cameras in the S lineup.
A new leak claims new camera sensor upgrades coming to the Galaxy S25 Ultra with 50MP resolution
A tipster Sperandio4Tech highlighted two vital changes to the camera array of the Galaxy S25 Ultra. Even though there is less clarity on the names yet, the ultrawide lens is expected to move to a 1/2.76-inch JN1 sensor. The same sensor on the Galaxy S24 Ultra is 1/2.55-inch, and in contrast, the ultrawide sensor might be smaller but comes with high-resolution support, moving from 12MP to a whopping 50MP.
Galaxy S25 Ultra - New Sensors Revealed
Although we still don't know the names of the sensors at this stage, the Ultrawide will have a new version of the 1/2.76" JN1 sensor, which is slightly smaller than the one in the S24 Ultra and has a higher resolution of 50MP, as we've… pic.twitter.com/LOyU9QJ9MT

The 3x telephoto lens would also be upgraded as it comes with an Isocell sensor of 1/3-inch, which is significantly larger than its predecessor. Similar to the ultrawide, the telephoto lens could also see a major jump in resolution, going for 50MP from a previous 10MP resolution.
Even though the camera hardware seems to be improving significantly, the algorithms to expand the camera's quality and capabilities are still in progress. The S24 Ultra's algorithm helped boost picture quality and camera stabilization while achieving refinement through noticeable camera upscaling.
Since the S25 Ultra's release is still quite some time away, we can expect more speculations regarding the camera layout to emerge, giving more clarity on the hardware changes. We are hopeful that Samsung will move forward with the upgraded changes, which could take the quality of the images up a notch by sporting a higher megapixel sensor and could be well received by users. The Galaxy S25 and S25 Plus are speculated to undergo no major changes from their previous versions, as they both are said to have a 12MP ultrawide and a 10MP telephoto lens.
The S25 series is said to have Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, and we could see a price hike due to the powerful chipset and the focus on AI integration with the S25 lineup. While other details are not clear yet, Samsung's improvements in the camera setup will help establish the upcoming S series in a distinctive position from its predecessors.
