The Samsung PM9E1 Gen5 SSD is manufactured using the in-house 5nm controller node and eight-generation V-NAND(V8) technology, which enables the SSD to reach high storage capacity and reliability. Apart from this, the SSD can reach incredibly high sequential read and write speeds of 14.5 GB/s and 13 GB/s respectively.

The Executive Vice President of Memory Product Planning at Samsung Electronics said,

Our PM9E1 integrated with a 5nm controller delivers industry-leading power efficiency and utmost performance validated by our key partners,...In the rapidly growing on-device AI era, Samsung’s PM9E1 will offer a robust foundation for global customers to effectively plan their AI portfolios.

Starting with PM9E1, Samsung plans to expand its advanced SSD offerings to global PC makers and expects to launch PCIe 5.0-based consumer products in the future to solidify its leadership in the on-device AI market.

Through the Gen5 interface, the Samsung PM9E1 SSD can reach double the sequential read/write speed of its predecessors, making it a powerful solution for data-intensive AI applications. This allows it to transfer up to 14GB of Large Language Model to the DRAM in less than a second. All of this while improving the battery life of devices like laptops since it brings up over 50% better power efficiency.

The PM9E1 will be available in various capacities, including 512 GB, 1 TB, 2 TB, and 4 TB. Regular users will be good to go with the 512 GB and 1 TB capacities while content creators and enthusiasts can store a lot of data like high-resolution videos, games, applications, and various AI-generated contents on the 2 and 4 TB drives.

The exact date of its official release in the market for users isn't revealed yet and Samsung has yet to announce the prices for PM9E1 with different capacities. Samsung also confirmed that it plans to expand its Gen5 SSD offering to global PC makers and expects to launch multiple PCIe 5.0 products focused on the consumer market soon. So those holding out for a Gen5 PRO and EVO SSDs should expect an announcement soon.
