Samsung recently announced its latest Galaxy S25 lineup with some pretty major upgrades on the inside. Externally, the device looks pretty much identical to the previous version, apart from some tiny tweaks. However, the star of the show is the company's one device that was not announced on stage but teased to the attendees. We have previously reported that the company is working on a slim version of the Galaxy S25, and it appears that the device will be called 'Edge.'
Samsung will launch the Galaxy S25 Edge sometime "around" April, according to the company's representative
Samsung teased its forthcoming Galaxy S25 Edge on stage, and by its looks, the device will feature a slimmer form factor and look vastly different from the flagship models. Soon after the event, the company also showcased the device to media personnel, but they were not allowed to touch it. Samsung managed to keep the device a secret in terms of design, but we still know a few aspects based on leaks and rumors.
At first glance, the device appears to be quite thin, and while the exact dimensions remain unknown, we believe that it will be somewhere around the 6mm mark. It was also previously reported that the device could be 6.4mm, but that remains to be seen. Other than this, the device will feature a display size similar to that of the Galaxy S25 Plus, which is 6.7 inches diagonally. On the back, it can be seen that the Galaxy S25 Edge features a dual-camera setup, and we believe the company is adopting the same approach as Apple but with an extra camera sensor. However, the camera module on the Galaxy S25 Edge protrudes quite a bit out of the chassis.
The iPhone 17 Air is expected to launch in the latter half of this year, featuring a slimmer design that could be thinner than that of the Galaxy S25 Edge. Past reports have mentioned that Apple aims to keep the device below the 6mm mark but has been running into technical challenges related to the battery substrate. However, we still believe that the device will be thinner than the recently teased Galaxy S25 Edge. Other than this, the iPhone 17 Air is also expected to feature a single-lens camera setup. It remains to be seen how the company will market the device against Samsung.
There is still a lot that we do not know about the Galaxy S25 Edge, but an extra camera sensor and the company's high-quality and higher refresh rate display, along with its thinner form factor, could give the iPhone 17 Air a hard time. It is good to see that Apple has competition even before it announces the new device. As for the launch, the Galaxy S25 Edge is apparently coming "around" April, according to a Samsung representative (via 9to5Google), which is in line with past reports of an April to May timeframe. We will keep you posted on the latest details on the device, so be sure to keep an eye out.
