TikTok may be acquired by Microsoft according to a new report

TikTok in the U.S. has drawn a lot of controversy, and with the ban coming into effect, there has been an uproar among the users and the tech community, where many were vying for the ban to be lifted as it was putting a limitation on freedom of speech and expression. ByteDance, the Chinese company that owns the social media platform, and President Trump have been working together, and currently, the app is back to being accessible and operational in the U.S. The future of the platform still remains uncertain, but a new report claims that Microsoft is currently in talks to acquire TikTok's U.S. operations.

As TikTok's future hangs in the air, Microsoft is said to have sealed the deal to buy TikTok U.S.

TikTok is undoubtedly the world's most influential social media platform, and its popularity can be seen in the U.S. when the ban was placed, causing a frenzy among the users, especially young teens, who even ended up calling 911 to express their dismay over the ban. After Trump's assurance to TikTok that he would be working with the platform to bring it back, TikTok's ban was lifted for 75 days, and the app is now operational in the U.S.

However, there was still ambiguity regarding the future of TikTok, but it seems that would also be cleared soon, as a report from Reuters now claims that the U.S. President confirmed himself about Microsoft being in talks with TikTok to buy the platform. Earlier, Trump did give the assurance that he is working on finding some solution for the future of the company, but it was mostly about finding companies for acquiring the U.S. operations.

This is not the first time Microsoft has been in the frame when it comes to taking over TikTok operations in the U.S. as back in 2020, both Oracle and Microsoft seemed to have been interested in the acquisition, with the latter being one of the top bidders, but this did not materialize as Trump some months later left office and plans of divestment were again left hanging. While previously, a report emerged about Elon Musk potentially buying TikTok, but TikTok itself debugged that rumor. The report now comes from a source that gives reliable news, but until official confirmation is received, all the information should be taken with a grain of salt.

TikTok has about 170 million American users, and with Microsoft taking over, it could be a huge deal and even reshape the industry, making it the most expensive acquisition in history. Whether this development translates is yet to be seen, but it does give users hope for the platform's potential future.
