Making a strategic decision, HMD Global has decided to officially wipe Nokia out of existence and has removed all signs of the company from its website. Heading over to nokia.com/phones will now redirect you to HMD Global's official website, and while this might surprise a lot of people, this is something that is going to happen inevitably.
Nokia's inevitable closure should not really come as a surprise, as the company has been struggling since 2007
Now that Nokia is no longer in the picture, HMD Global will start working on its own smartphones and feature phones. We are going to start seeing these devices later this year. There is going to be a TA-1585, which will be a flagship model. There will also be a tablet named HMD T21. In addition, the company will be working on several budget and low-end models, each sporting its own design and the HMD logo.
For those wondering what is going to become of Nokia, well, HMD Global has talked about how they are going to continue their partnership with the company, where they will get the chance to use the technology and patents in the communication field to ensure that the phones and devices released are up to the mark. However, as far as Nokia branded products are concerned, that is no longer going to happen unless the company decides to restart its legacy by itself.
As far as Nokia's situation is concerned, being someone who has seen the company at its prime and then struggle, I am not surprised that HMD Global has decided to change its strategy. However, we have to keep in mind that currently, the company is focusing on targeting Asian and Indian regions with the new products. However, at a certain point, the products and services should also start rolling out to European and American regions. This is certainly the right way to go because it will help the company become a key player in a market that is heavily saturated but still easier to get into.
With Nokia now not part of HMD Global, I wish HMD Global the best for the future, and I really hope that the company manages to bring out products that are not just priced competitively but also have everything to offer that a smartphone user normally looks for. It might not be the easiest thing to do, but as long as the company can make this possible, there are always people out there who are keen on trying these out.
