With generative AI on the rise, YouTube is definitely taking an interest in this latest trend. Soon we will see some AI-based features coming to the platform as it introduces some guidelines around the content generated with AI's help, and the changes will start rolling out in the coming months.
YouTube isn't against the use of AI-generated content but understands the risks
Based on the information provided, YouTube will require content creators to disclose whether their videos include realistic but altered or synthetic content created using AI tools. For instance, the video could contain images that are AI-generated, or there could be something else in the video that is AI-powered. The video can also include content of people talking about something they didn't say with the help of AI. The point here is to ensure that creators are not abusing the powers of AI.
To ensure that creators comply with this, YouTube has also mentioned that any creator who actively decides not to disclose any information could be subjected to having their content removed or even suspension from the YouTube Partner Program, amongst other penalties.
Of course, these changes still have not gone into effect, but we can expect them to start rolling out soon. YouTube has also mentioned how it will be working with creators to ensure that everyone onboard understands what these requirements are all about.
On the user front, there will be labels showing whether the content is AI-generated. If the topic is on the sensitive side, you will see a label that is on the more prominent side.
YouTube also reiterates that the label might not be enough. In that case, if the video violates any community guidelines, there is a chance that it will be taken down even if the creator has disclosed the information. YouTube has also gone ahead and mentioned that any content generated with its generative AI products and features will also carry a label.
Last but not least, users will also be able to request YouTube to remove any AI-generated content that they think is wrong. For instance, if AI-generated content includes an individual that can be identified by their face or voice, the company will act on its removal.
On the other side, music partners will also be able to go ahead and request the removal of AI-generated music content. This is certainly a great move for all content creators and the platform itself. Once the features start rolling out, we can expect YouTube to become much more intuitive without too many issues related to AI-generated content.
